This is probably a very unusual time to un-box this but late is better than never. Let’s see how good is it? A 2018 budget flagship in 2020.
The box looks minimal and fine. No issues here. A "POCO by Xiaomi" branding and nothing too crazy. I like the POCO branding in this colour.
This phone was offered at INR 19,000 base variant at the time of launch which is September 2018. But currently 6/128 is available for INR 14,999 which has a MRP of 24,999. Interesting huh?
Housing the great SD 845, this comes with 6 gigs RAM and 64 gigs storage for the base variant and it go up to 8/256 for the maxed-out version.
Inside the box we see it’s a simple transparent case which is good to have since they are providing this case for this budget device. Thumbs up to xiaomi for that.
Now we have the phone for ourselves; Man it feels good to peel off this matte finish film.
Let’s turn it on and have a look at the rest of the contents.
Well nothing too fancy! A Standard Fast charger along with a typical type C cable.
I really hope they provided a longer cable since its always convenient to have a longer cable. I remember Xiaomi used to give long cables for Redmi Note series; but it’s gone now.
The phone has an unusual glass and plastic build. It doesn’t feel bad, but definitely doesn’t feel premium in hands. But hey, we’ve given just 15k for a 1.5 yr old flagship, so we shouldn’t be complaining right?
The display is a FHD+ IPS LCD panel, and MI’s panels haven’t been bad in the past and this isn’t either. Only thing I instantly notice is the bottom portion of the device has more light coming out from the bottom. That’s only a minor issue and not a lot of people will notice that, but I did.
The front has a notch, which houses sensors, front camera and earpiece. Well that’s pretty much it for the front.
Bottom of the device has a type C port, primary microphone and the speaker. Speakers are above average I’d say but yet again, we’ve better options within the price range.
Volume rockers and power button to the right and hybrid sim slot to the left.
The device is definitely not something very crazy or fancy even back in the day.
What’s fancy though was the pricing. It was a direct competition to the honor play and this was considered as the true flagship killer competing with the OnePlus 6 and 6t.
But we clearly know who won the battle of the speed; not judging thou. We’ll come to conclusion later on. But for now, this is it fellas.
